Based on 1940s wool jersey underwear.
Underwear at the time had poor elasticity and often featured a front placket, known as a Henley neck. Considering its use as an inner layer for shirts, we speculate that the placket was shifted to the side rather than the center front to prevent overlapping. The base of the back neck is reinforced with the same fabric from the inside.
The material used is a characteristic slub-knit jersey with a natural uneven texture.
We used yarn that recreates the slubbing from an era when it was not possible to spin perfectly straight yarn, and knitted it densely.
The cuffs replicate the two-stage circular ribbing found on undershirts from the 1910s.
