Based on wool jersey underwear from the 1940s.
Underwear at the time had poor elasticity and often featured an open front, so-called Henley necks. We surmise that, considering its use as an inner layer for shirts, the opening was shifted to the side instead of the center front to prevent overlapping with shirt openings. The back of the neck is reinforced with a self-fabric patch on the inside.
The material used is a plain knit characterized by its natural uneven texture.
We used yarn that recreates the unevenness characteristic of an era when it was not possible to spin clean, straight yarn, and knitted it densely.
The cuffs replicate the two-stage circular ribbing found on undershirts from the 1910s.
