This design is based on wool jersey underwear from the 1940s.
Underwear from that era lacked elasticity and frequently featured a front opening, commonly known as a Henley neck.
It is presumed that the opening was shifted to the side rather than the center front to ensure it would not overlap when worn as an undershirt. Additionally, the base of the back of the neck is reinforced from the inside with a matching fabric patch.
The material used is a jersey fabric characterized by a natural, uneven texture. It is knitted with a high gauge using yarn that replicates the texture of an era when it was not possible to spin perfectly straight yarn.
The cuffs reproduce the circular-knit two-stage ribbed design found on undershirts from the 1910s. Like the vintage originals, the use of two-tone colors for the ribbing and the body adds a stylish accent.
