Originating from the production process of Oshima Tsumugi, this is a traditional Japanese dyeing technique initially developed for dyeing silk threads.
Dyeing is performed using a chemical reaction between a dye extracted from the Techi tree (Rhaphiolepis indica var. umbellata of the rose family) and the iron content in mud fields.
After chipping the Techi wood and boiling it, the dye is extracted by letting it sit for 4-5 days, then dyeing is performed with this Techi wood dye (tannic acid).
Subsequently, the dyeing process continues while neutralizing with alkali from lime.
Repeating this process approximately 10 times creates a deep and rich color.
