玉木新雌 | tamaki niime
Brand established by designer Niime Tamaki in 2004.
The brand features items made using the traditional technique of "Banshu-ori" weaving, which is handed down in Nishiwaki, Hyogo Prefecture.
The brand maintains an integrated manufacturing process that involves harvesting cotton from pesticide-free cultivation, spinning the yarn, dyeing and weaving.
Using yarn-dyed yarns, a characteristic of Banshu weaving, the fabric is woven on a 1960's power loom and a 1980's rapier loom.
The loom is advanced as slowly as possible, resulting in a soft, airy fabric that cannot be reproduced on looms that focus on productivity.
The weft threads change color in a short period of time, which would be unthinkable in mass production, and the weaving process always produces one-of-a-kind pieces.
